The Original Pancake House
The Original Pancake House was founded in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke. Drawing upon their many years experience in the culinary field and their comprehensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes, they were able to offer without compromise this unique and original menu. This menu has gained national acclaim and remains unchanged to this day. The Original Pancake House in Portland has received two James Beard Awards. First in 1956 the “McCall’s Citation for Excellence” and second, in 1999 the “American’s Regional Classic Award”.
Always keeping true to her family owned and operated roots, Sara Hueneke Ernst – great niece of franchise co-founder Erma Hueneke – brought The Original Pancake House to Denver in 1996 serving the same traditional recipes the founders perfected so many years ago. When we see grandparents, cousins, uncles, grandkids, brothers and sisters of multiple generations sitting down together to enjoy a meal, we know the tradition is alive and well. Tradition is delicious.
